Our Lives Depend on Clean Water

Did you know; that when you brush your teeth with the water running 2 gallons of fresh water is wasted? Did you know; a 5 minute shower wastes 10 gallons?

Did you know; The devastating earthquake in Haiti in January 2009 claimed the lives of more than 200,000 people, making it one of the biggest single natural disasters.

But in contrast, some 3.6 million people – including 1.5 million children – are estimated to die each year from water-related diseases, including diarrhea, typhoid, cholera and dysentery.

In the United States we often are lucky enough to forget or never know the hardships of ensuring we have clean water. In other parts of the world, however, that is not the case.

Since 1999 AVEDA has raised over $50 million for water conservation projects around the world. By parenting with local and global non-profits around the world.

If for example, you purchase an Aveda Earth Month Candle,100% of the proceeds goes to Global GreenGrants. A non-profit whose focus is clean sustainable water.

Women in Sugu used a Greengrant to protect their only source of drinking water, a rock spring, from destruction by a mining company. But now the quarry’s waste is polluting the spring. The women are using another Greengrant to clean up the spring and build a buffer zone around it.

Join the mission today. Support clean water, and make a difference in our local and global communities.
