Esthiology at Aveda Institute New Mexico: What the Program Takes, and What It Gives You

If skin is the thing that fascinates you, esthiology is a career worth knowing in detail before you begin. Our next cohort starts September 16, and the people who thrive in it are the ones who walked in knowing exactly what the six months ahead would ask of them and exactly what they would carry out. The Shape of the Program

Six hundred hours, three days a week, with a milestone check at the 300 hour mark in December for our September cohort.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on campus leaves the rest of the week for everything else you are building. Students often tell us the six months moved faster than they expected, because every week brought something they could not do the week before.

Skin Science You Can Use

Esthiology is a science program with a creative heart, and the science part is genuinely satisfying.

You will learn how skin is built, how it changes with age and season and climate, and why it responds the way it does to what you put on it. You will study ingredients closely enough to know what a formula is doing and why. You will learn sanitation and contraindications with real care, because a licensed esthetician holds someone else’s comfort and confidence in their hands. That knowledge is what separates a treatment that feels nice from a treatment that actually works, and guests can tell the difference immediately.

Hands on in the Salon

Technique becomes skill the moment it meets a real person with a real concern and a real appointment.

Our student artists work our salon floor with guests, under the guidance of licensed educators. You will perform facials and skin analysis, waxing and hair removal, brow and lash services, and makeup application, all using Aveda’s plant-based line. Just as importantly, you will learn the consultation: how to listen to what someone is asking for, understand what they actually want, and build a plan they trust. That conversation is the heart of the profession, and there is no way to learn it except by having it, again and again, with people who came in hoping you would get it right.

Where an Esthiology License Takes You

A New Mexico esthetician license opens more doors than most people picture.

Licensed estheticians work in salons, in resort and hotel spas, in brow and lash studios, in skincare retail and product education, and independently through booth rental. Some build a treatment room practice and stay in it for a full career because they love the craft and the relationships. Others grow into education, brand work, management or specialization. All of it starts with the same license and the same 600 hours.

Your September Dates

Enrollment deadline: Wednesday, September 2.
Orientation: Wednesday, September 9.
Class starts: Wednesday, September 16.
Kit day: Wednesday, September 23.

Financial aid may be available to those who qualify, and our FAFSA school code is 041745. Aid packages are often a mix of grants and loans, and loans are repaid, so our admissions team will walk you through your real options rather than a general estimate.
